Capabilities

Ten inspection disciplines.
One standard.

Inidam's technicians are qualified across the full range of non-destructive testing methods. Each discipline is delivered to UK PCN Level 3 standards and to ASNT standards where applicable. Below is a reference to every method we perform.

01/Radiographic Inspection

Radiographic Inspection

Radiographic testing uses X-ray or gamma radiation to reveal internal defects in welds, castings, and assemblies. Inidam operates both X-ray and isotope-based radiography from our Romsey laboratory and at client sites under licensed conditions. Imaging is performed on film or via digital detector arrays depending on the standard required.

Key applications
  • ●Weld integrity in pressure vessels and pipelines
  • ●Casting porosity and shrinkage detection
  • ●Aerospace component inspection
  • ●Internal flaw mapping in critical assemblies
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Level 3 Radiography (Industrial)
  • ●PCN Level 3 Radiography (Aerospace)
  • ●ASNT Level III certified personnel
  • ●Site radiography under HSE-approved procedures
02/Ultrasonic Inspection

Ultrasonic Inspection

Ultrasonic testing uses high-frequency sound waves to detect sub-surface defects and to measure thickness with high precision. Our technicians operate conventional ultrasonic, phased array, and time-of-flight diffraction techniques across welds, castings, plate, forgings, and bonded assemblies.

Key applications
  • ●Sub-surface flaw detection in welds
  • ●Wall thickness mapping for asset integrity
  • ●Lamination detection in plate and pipe
  • ●Bond integrity in composite and bonded assemblies
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Level 3 Ultrasonic Testing
  • ●ASNT Level III certified personnel
  • ●Phased Array UT capability
  • ●Time-of-Flight Diffraction (TOFD) capability
03/MPI

Magnetic Particle Inspection

Magnetic particle inspection detects surface and near-surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials. A magnetic field is induced into the component, and fluorescent or dry-particle media reveals discontinuities at the surface. MPI is fast, sensitive, and well-suited to high-volume inspection of welds, forgings, and castings.

Key applications
  • ●Weld toe and root crack detection
  • ●Forging and casting surface flaws
  • ●Fatigue crack detection in service
  • ●In-process inspection during fabrication
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Level 3 Magnetic Particle Inspection
  • ●ASNT Magnetic Particle certification
  • ●Wet fluorescent and dry-particle methods
  • ●Compliant with EN ISO 9934 and ASME standards
04/DPI

Dye Penetrant Inspection

Dye penetrant inspection reveals surface-breaking defects in any non-porous material — ferrous, non-ferrous, ceramic, or plastic. A liquid penetrant is applied, drawn into surface discontinuities by capillary action, and revealed by a developer. DPI is one of the most versatile and cost-effective NDT methods for surface inspection.

Key applications
  • ●Surface crack detection in non-ferrous alloys
  • ●Casting and forging surface inspection
  • ●Aerospace component verification
  • ●Post-machining and post-welding inspection
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Level 3 Penetrant Testing
  • ●ASNT Penetrant certification
  • ●Fluorescent and visible (red dye) systems
  • ●Aerospace-approved procedures
05/Visual Inspection

Visual Inspection

Trained visual inspection remains the foundation of every NDT programme. Our visual inspectors examine welds, surface finish, dimensional conformance, and overall workmanship to project and industry standards — including remote visual inspection where access is restricted, using borescopes and video probes.

Key applications
  • ●Weld visual inspection to AWS, EN, ASME codes
  • ●Surface and dimensional conformance
  • ●Remote visual inspection (borescope, video probe)
  • ●Pre-inspection assessment for follow-on NDT
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Visual Inspection certification
  • ●CSWIP welding inspector qualifications
  • ●Compliant with EN ISO 17637 and ASME V
  • ●Remote visual inspection equipment available
06/Hardness Testing

Hardness Testing

Hardness testing verifies material condition after heat treatment, welding, or service exposure. Inidam performs portable on-site hardness testing using UCI and rebound (Leeb) methods, and laboratory-based Rockwell, Vickers, and Brinell testing for higher-precision requirements.

Key applications
  • ●Post-weld heat treatment verification
  • ●Material identification and condition assessment
  • ●Hardness mapping across welds and HAZ
  • ●On-site portable testing for in-service assets
Standards & qualifications
  • ●Portable UCI and Leeb rebound methods
  • ●Laboratory Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell
  • ●Compliant with EN ISO 6506-6508 and ASTM
  • ●Traceable calibration to national standards
07/Thickness Measurement

Thickness Measurement

Ultrasonic thickness measurement is the cornerstone of asset integrity programmes. Our technicians perform thickness surveys on pressure equipment, pipelines, storage tanks, and structural elements — providing the corrosion-monitoring data that supports inspection intervals and fitness-for-service assessments.

Key applications
  • ●Corrosion monitoring on pressure equipment
  • ●Storage tank floor and shell thickness
  • ●Pipeline wall thickness surveys
  • ●Structural integrity assessment
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN Ultrasonic Thickness certification
  • ●Compliant with API 510, API 570, API 653
  • ●Through-coating measurement capability
  • ●Digital data capture and reporting
08/ACFM

Alternating Current Field Measurement

Alternating Current Field Measurement is an electromagnetic technique for detecting and sizing surface-breaking cracks in conductive materials — including through paint and other coatings. ACFM is particularly valuable for in-service inspection where coating removal is impractical or undesirable.

Key applications
  • ●Subsea and offshore weld inspection
  • ●Through-coating crack detection
  • ●Topside structural weld inspection
  • ●In-service fatigue crack sizing
Standards & qualifications
  • ●PCN ACFM certification
  • ●Independent length and depth sizing
  • ●Inspection through conductive and non-conductive coatings
  • ●Suitable for hazardous-area deployment
09/Ferrite Testing

Ferrite Content Testing

Ferrite content measurement in austenitic and duplex stainless steel welds is critical for confirming corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Inidam uses calibrated Feritscope instruments to provide rapid, repeatable on-site measurements to project specifications.

Key applications
  • ●Austenitic stainless steel weld qualification
  • ●Duplex stainless steel ferrite balance verification
  • ●Post-weld property confirmation
  • ●Material verification on critical service equipment

  • ●Compliant with AWS A4.2 and ASTM E562
  • ●Site and laboratory measurement capability
  • ●Traceable calibration to NIST standards
10/PMI

Positive Material Identification

Positive material identification confirms that materials in fabrication or service match their specified grade. Inidam performs PMI using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and optical emission spectroscopy (OES), providing rapid alloy verification on-site or in the laboratory for fabrication QA, service inspection, and incident investigation.

Key applications
  • ●Fabrication material verification
  • ●In-service material confirmation
